Google's closed-weight Gemini 4 Argon is a multimodal reasoning model with configurable thinking levels and a 1,048,576-token context window.
Overview. Gemini 4 Argon is a closed-weight multimodal model from Google, part of the Gemini family. It is built around configurable thinking levels for complex reasoning, and it has a 1,048,576-token context window. Reach for it when a task needs extended reasoning over a large amount of input.
Key strengths. Google's documentation describes Argon in terms of thinking-level controls and complex reasoning and coding behaviour, and it supports image understanding alongside text. The 1,048,576-token context window lets you pass very large inputs in a single request. Artificial Analysis has since published benchmark scores for Argon, including an Intelligence Index of roughly 53, so these strengths are backed by measured third-party results as well as vendor documentation.
When to use it. Use Gemini 4 Argon for multi-step reasoning, complex coding tasks, and analysis of long documents or mixed text-and-image inputs. It fits asynchronous or batch-style workloads, where the extra time that reasoning takes is acceptable. For simple, latency-critical chat turns, the Smart Router can send those requests to a lighter model instead.
Limitations. Google's documentation says Gemini 4 models ignore custom temperature, top_p, and top_k values and return deprecation warnings, so you cannot tune sampling through those parameters. Output is text only. Google has not published the exact parameter count, tokenizer, or training cutoff for Argon, though its model card describes it as a sparse mixture-of-experts transformer-based model.
Sovereignty note. Gemini 4 Argon is a proprietary model created by Google and served as a hosted API, and its weights are not available for self-hosting. The research did not cover endpoint data residency, CLOUD Act exposure, or training-on-input policy, so check these on the endpoint before using it with regulated data.
