Xiaomi MiMo is the AI research team inside Xiaomi, a Beijing-headquartered consumer-hardware group. Its MiMo models are released as open weights under the permissive MIT licence, which is good news for self-hosting EU teams, but the team publishes no EU AI Act Article 53 transparency artefacts (no system card, no training-data summary, no named red-teaming) and no MiMo-specific DPA or privacy notice, so deployers must treat documentation and data-protection gaps as the main adoption risk. Jurisdiction is China with no CLOUD Act exposure, but Xiaomi carries a history of US military-company designation (later lifted) and is subject to PRC data and intelligence law.
